Special Educational Needs’ refers to learning difficulties or disabilities that make learning, communication or behaviour more challenging for a child with these special needs than for others of a similar age. Our Special Educational Needs (SEN) course addresses learning outcomes related to aspects of working with children who have specific special educational needs and requirements.
If you want to work with children and/or young people with special educational needs, then this course is for you.
By the end of this special education needs course training you will be able to:
Unit 1: Child and young person’s development
This unit will begin to address learning outcome 1 (stated above). This learning outcome will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will explore the expected pattern of children and young people’s development from birth to 19 years and how the different areas of development can affect one another.
Unit 2: The support of disabled children and young people and those with specific requirements
This unit will focus on learning outcome 2 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research how you as a practitioner can support disabled children or young people and those with specific needs in partnership with their parents/carers. You will also research partnership working with other agencies and professionals.
Unit 3: Supporting children and young people to achieve their learning potential
This unit will focus on learning outcome 3 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will learn how to support children and young people to ensure that they take every possible opportunity to make the most of learning and achieve their learning potential.
Unit 4: Working with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
This unit will focus on learning outcomes 4 and 5 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research how practitioners can and should work with children and young people at the centre of their practice, basing their work on the strengths of the children and young people rather than focussing on their difficulties. You will explore the way in which behaviour, social and emotional difficulties are linked with speech, language and communication development and research effective ways to support the speech, language and communication development of children and young people with behaviour, emotional and social difficulties.

I think that the units, could have better quality content, broken into easier formatted module titles. Nice comments returned on improvements and context to think in own life scenarios! They certainly give ...
I was able to complete the course at my own pace at a time that met my needs. I would and have recommended the course to my friends and I have been able to tell them about my learning experience and how my confidence grew as I progressed through the course.
Excellent opportunity. Highly recommended. Recognised qualifications at the end another personal achievement to add to your portfolio/CV.
I was given Criminology for beginners course as a Christmas present, would never have thought of doing it myself but I have enjoyed it so much. It was so easy to do and very hard to put down. It’s like reading a good book then having a test on it. There is no pressure, no tutor hurrying you up and no time limits on the tests, just how learning should be. The written report I received after the ...
I was very pleased to undertake this course. It has motivated me to learn more about psychology. The assessments were at the right level and the final exam had useful feedback which I benefited from. The material throughout is presented clearly.
I have just completed a Reflexology Diploma Course and also took the exam on completion. The course itself was excellent and in particular I liked the test at the end of each lesson. It refreshes your memory of what you have been studying. The Anatomy and Physiology was the hardest part of the course but with plenty of studying it is achievable. The final exam which you pay for if you want to t...
My Animal Psychology Diploma was a well written and informative course. Easy to follow and complete. Great that it can be completed in your own time, allows for day to day activities to be undertaken and study to fit in when it can.
